Tips for Tamarindo, Costa Rica

Someone asked me about tips for Tamarindo, Costa Rica and thought I would share them.

If you plan to go to Tamarindo, you will most likely fly into San Jose. If you are renting a car, the highway is paved from San Jose Airport and the drive along the countryside will take 4-5 hours. There is also scheduled daily bus service to and from San José, if you want to ride with the locals.

Tamarindo Bay is on Costa Rica’s northwest Pacific coast side. This area is a beach lover’s paradise. Lots of surfing, water sports of all kinds, and a variety of sports fishing. There are also tours that will take you on a jungle boat ride into the mangrove forest where all types of birds, mammals, and reptiles are located. I’ve not done it myself, but my clients say it is not to be missed. More adventurous activities include zip lining, which Bill and I have done and absolutely love.

Now enough of the activities. Let’s move on to the relaxation part. This is a place where you can do everything or nothing at all. In addition to the number of beaches, there are volcanic hot springs and mud baths. And did I say beaches and beaches galore.
Tamarindo has two seasons, dry and rainy and. August is the rainy season but a typical day is sunny or partly cloudy until late afternoon or evening. Everything is green and lush and temperatures range between 80 and 100 degrees.
There is very little crime in Costa Rica so if you are going it along, you don’t have to worry about your safety. Have fun and enjoy.
